I'm a week late writing this, but I'm still paying for the last work weekend, working on the food plots. I was on one of the tractors, discing and the jarring of the riding has done my back in, plus lifting some roofing this past week finished me off. Seems I'm getting too old for this crap!

Law Dog Doerfler bush hogged the Thursday and Friday, so we had a great start on the work. ROB was discing the West and South plots, while I worked on the on the North and East plots. Elbis, Big Al, and Chipper rounded up the seed and fertilizer and got it distrubuted. Zach and Law Dog seeded and fertilized the South and West plots and the rest of us did the same on the East and West plots. Zach then drug all the plots,…

I did a little bit of copying and pasting here, but these are new deer hunting regulations for the upcoming season. They differ from our club regulations, so, we will have to have some discussion on this at our club meeting on Sept. 13th. I want all of our members to think about the changes and I welcome your input on this subject.

Regulation Changes for the Upcoming Deer Hunting Season

Mississippi's 2014 - 2015 deer hunting season brings with it several major regulation changes. These regulation changes are intended to aid in the proper management of Mississippi's deer herd while providing maximum opportunity to hunters.

During any open season on deer with primitive weapons after November 30, hunters may use any legal weapon of choice on private lands only, if the…

I just got in from the deer camp a while ago, it was a hot weekend! We graded some trails, bush hogged some trails, cut trees that had fallen in the trails and food plots, put up two deer stands, found deers stands put up near existing deer stands, trimmed limbs hanging over trails, it was a full weekend!

We had some great grub, as always. Friday night was grilled deer steak and sausage with smothered potatoes and salad and Saturday night was venison spaghetti and garlic bread. Our food from the forest!

I can tell you that we drank two cases of Gator Aid and one case of water. There were a few adult beverages consumed also, but no law enforcement was needed and no animals were hurt. One lucky soul had a Kool Vest for the work days.

Many hunters were at their camps this past weekend, I saw many pickups with ATVs headed to the camp this past Friday, headed the same direction that I was heading.

I got into the camp at 4:00 PM, it was hard to get out of Baton Rouge with all of the traffic, as usual. The first thing on the agenda was to get the broken wheel off the tractor and get the tire mounted on the new wheel. I got to the tire place at 4:15 PM and told the guy what I needed, he shook his head no! I pleaded, I got here as soon as I could from Baton Rouge to get this done, so please help me. He said OK, he understood that not getting the tire fixed would blow my weekend. It took over an hour to get done. I had to wait for him to fix a flat on a big tractor tire and do an oil change before he got to me, but it was done and I'd be able to the trails graded and ready for the Summer.…

I'm wondering how many people look at the contents of deer's stomachs, to find out what the deer are eating. Like the CSI, it could tell you the whole story. I would bet that most has corn in our area. I know for a fact that food plots work, from…Continue

I think that God, being all knowing, knew how much we would screw up things, so he designed us to evolve to adjust to our screw ups. I truly believe that with God, all things are possible. Who am I to say that He would or won't design us that way! I don't presume to know what's in Gods plan for us, so I never say that God would not have designed things to evolve. Serves 8 - 10 People

Peanut oil (bacon grease is good too) to saute meat.

3 lbs. Venison cut into stew meat.

2 Large onions, diced.

2 Bell peppers, diced.

2 Table Spoons minced garlic.

Tony Chachere's Cajun seasoning.

2 14.5 oz. cans name brand chopped carrots.

2 14.5 oz. cans name brand sweet peas.

1 8 oz. can of name brand nibblet corn.

1-11/2 lbs. new potatoes, diced.

1 Box/can Swanson's beef broth.

1) Brown stew meat, onions, bell pepper, and garlic in a 6 quart dutch oven, season the meat and seasonings with Tony Chachere's

2) Add all can goods, including the juice from the can.

3) Add the beef broth.

4) Add the diced potatoes.

5) Bring to a boil,  the lower the heat to a simmer, cover and simmer for an hour.

6) Serve over buttered cornbread, your recipe or Bubba's Creamy Cornbread.

7) Check the seasoning towards the end of the cooking time, you may want to add some more Tony Chachere's, you've added a lot of ingredients to the mix at this point. I check the stew several times for seasoning during cooking.

2 Pound bag of Aunt Jamima's Yellow Corn Meal.

Follow the instructions on the back of the bag, except for the milk. Substitute sour cream for the milk, then add 1 small can drained of nibblets corn and 3 table spoons of diced, mild, jalapeno peppers. You will have to add some milk to thin down the batter.

This stew is easy to cook and is great at home or at the camp. I always use name brand ingredients, the stew always taste better with better quality ingredients, I've cooked this stew hundreds of times, I know this for a fact.

You'll love the creamy cornbread, with the stew over it or on the side or both, you can't go wrong. The stew may be cooked ahead of time, like a day or two, it gets better after the first day you've cooked it.
